In order to depict within a single row all four forms used in twelve-tone technique, an individual row was developed. In its four sections this shows the basic row, the retrograde, the inversion and the retrograde inversion.

Vertical beams were used to depict the tones graphically. The height and width of the beams is determined by the request to arrange twelve beams in twelve different vertical positions within a square.

1. basic row
2. retrograde – reflection of the basic row about a vertical axis.
3. invesrion – Reflection of the basic row about a horizontal axis.
4. retrograde invcer– Reflection of the basic row about a vertical and horizontal axis.
