Handmade cardboard slide rule of tone rows for this work, written in Schoenberg's twelve tone notation, measuring 11.2 x 23.2 cm. The music is written in black ink with tone numbers added in red ink and brackets in purple ink.
Mfl. 1179: Bidirectional tone row chart with the inversions written in black ink on the vertical axis; the basic set and its transpositions written on red ink staves on the horizontal axis. Written on two separate leaves, the first measuring 18.9 x 22.2 cm., the second 1.5 x 21.8 cm., affixed to one side of a piece of white cardboard, measuring 21.1 x 33.1 cm. The verso is blank.

Mfl. 1182 written in pencil and contains 11 staves of tone rows, with 8 of them crossed out.
Mfl. 1183 is written in black ink and contains sketches of trichords, annotated in red ink.
Mfl. 1186 contains early sketches of the beginning of movement 1 (cf. Sketchbook V, p. 114), and unused thematic sketches of Erzte[?] Adagio, Walzer and Foxtrot (cf. Sketchbook V, p. 115). The sketches are written in pencil and red ink.
Mfl. 1187 is written in black ink and contains early sketches of Schoenberg's twelve tone notation.
Mfl. 1184: Written on two leaves pasted together. The first leaf measures 25.4 x 34.7 cm. and is trimmed to 16 staves. Four additional staves have been hand drawn in the lower margin. The second leaf measures 8 x 34.6 cm. with one printed and 4 hand drawn staves. The leaves contain tone rows written in both pencil and black ink. Certain groupings are circled in pencil, green pencil or red ink. The versos are blank.
